Risk Manager at Southern CA Gas Company (SCG)
Sheri Lawrence is currently the Risk Manager at Southern CA Gas Company (SCG) where she manages the Self-Insured Integrated Disability Management Program. Her department manages the workers’ compensation, Family Medical Leave Act, and California Family Rights Act programs for SCG’s 8,000+ employees. Sheri’s responsibilities also include vendor management and contracts, cost containment, claims system, SIU/Fraud program and Office of Self-Insured Plans compliance. Her department is housed within the Human Resources - Diversity & Inclusion Department. Sheri began her career with SCG in 2018 and has increased and retained a diverse community of suppliers. Her dedication and successful retention rate over 75% earned her a Leadership Diversity & Inclusion Award in 2019.
Sheri began her career in Workers’ Compensation at State Compensation Insurance Fund Cerritos Branch in 1989. During her career she has held the positions of claims examiner, hearing representative (Applicant & Defense), quality assurance, supervisor, assistant manager, assistant vice president, and claims manager. Ms. Lawrence’s vast experience in the workers’ compensation industry has allowed her to understand the nuances of the industry from every angle. The integration of her skills and dedication to mentorship has allowed her the opportunity to mentor, train, and promote those with exceptional skills who would have otherwise not been given the opportunity.
Sheri earned her Bachelor of Arts degree at University of CA Riverside. Thereafter, she earned her Juris Doctor through Western State University, American College of Law and completed summer courses in Spain. She is currently working on her Associate in Risk Management (ARM).
Sheri is looking forward to working on the community service and professional development and training committees within AAWCP. Sheri is an active member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., where she is currently risk management coordinator for youth programs with her chapter and continues to work on social action issues and community service projects. She is an active member of the African American Parent Counsel at Rancho Cucamonga High School and is completing the launch of her teen daughter Sierra’s 501(c)(3), Camp Confidence for Girls, Inc. She looks forward to bringing that same energy and passion to AAWCP.
